Restoring Family History

Welcome to The Moore House, a historic gem that holds decades of family memories and a deep-rooted connection to the past.

This charming short-term vacation rental was built in 1919 by a family relative and, in the 1950s, became the long-term residence of the owner’s grandparents, G.L. and Dorothy Moore.

The century-old home underwent a complete renovation in 2022-2023 by the Moore’s granddaughter Mary Kate and her husband, Joseph. Although they reside in Texas, they’ve always been fond of Willcox, nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Southeast Arizona, and it was a dream to have a second home in the region. The couple saw an opportunity to give the home a much-needed restoration, creating not only a family retreat but also a chance to share this hidden treasure with fellow travelers seeking a unique experience.

In 2022, the couple started the daunting renovation (from two states away) and left no surface untouched. They made it a priority to modernize the kitchen and bathrooms while restoring the original doors and hardware and adding historic details back into the home with the era-specific bead board paneling and trim.

Mary Kate’s interior design studio, Saguaro West, leaned into its core design aesthetic by mixing new and modern elements with antique pieces and features to create a nostalgic and cozy atmosphere for guests.

Nestled in the heart of Southeast Arizona’s burgeoning tourism, the house is ideally located just one block away from the historic downtown. Visitors can enjoy the enchanting wine-tasting rooms, shopping, and local cuisine or venture out to explore a region now renowned for its wineries and delicious Arizona wines.

Whether you’re planning a relaxing escape or an adventurous girls’ trip, The Moore House is the perfect sanctuary to make cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
